Emergency services searching for a woman seen in the sea in Porthcawl have found a woman's body. A major search took place after reports of a woman seen by the water's edge on Tuesday evening. South Wales Police confirmed on Saturday that a body has since been found in a nearby coastal location after a call from a member of the public.
A force spokesperson said: "While formal identification has yet to take place, her family has been informed of the news. HM Coroner has been informed. Our thoughts are with the next of kin at this difficult time."
Emergency services were first called to the scene just before 6pm on Tuesday. Coastguard rescue teams from Porthcawl, Port Talbot, and Llantwit Major were involved in the search along with the police helicopter and coastguard helicopter. A lifeboat from Mumbles also supported the search.
Lifeboat coxswain Josh Stewart said on Wednesday: "I'm immensely proud of our crew's enthusiasm and professionalism last night. The conditions were some of the worst they'll ever have to launch into. The swell was well over 5m high and beam on which made visual search pretty tricky but it's what we train for and while we didn't get the result we wanted I'm still proud of our crew who made every effort to find the casualty. Our thoughts are with the casualty's family and friends at this time." For the latest Welsh news delivered to your inbox sign up to our newsletter
