Taylor Swift has given fans a glimpse of song lyrics from her new and upcoming album, The Tortured Poets Department. The 34-year-old Cruel Summer singer dropped the bombshell news during the 2024 Grammy Awards ceremony last night (Feb 4).

While accepting her thirteenth Grammy Award, the popstar announced her new album is not a 'Taylor's Version' re-record, but a never-before-heard sting of newly written songs. As she collected the gong for best pop vocal album, Swift revealed she had been keeping her forthcoming album a secret for two years - which overlaps with her romance with ex-boyfriend Joe Alwyn.

She then swiftly posted the album's release date (April 19), a picture of the album's cover on social media and even shared some lyrics from it. Unsurprisingly, the news and the teaser post sent fans into a meltdown, with many speculating what, or who, the lyrics are about. Some are convinced the lyrics are about Alwyn, who she was with for six years before breaking up in early 2023.

The lyrics are as follows: "And so I enter into evidence. My tarnished coat of arms. My muses acquired like bruises. My talismans and charms. The tick tick tick of love bombs. My veins of pitch black ink. All's fair in love and poetry... Sincerely, The Chairman of the Tortured Poets Department."

Bearing in mind Joe Alwyn is said to be in a group WhatsApp chat called the "Tortured Man Club", with fellow UK-based actors, Paul Mescal and Andrew Scott, the singer's fans don't think the lyrics and album title are a coincidence. Back in 2022, it was revealed in an interview with Variety that Scott "started the group".

Joe previously opened up about the group chat in an interview with GQ magazine, explaining it was a nod to the characters he and Paul played in Conversations with Friends and Normal People respectively.

Mescal said: "He's just on it every day. He's just on it by himself." Alwyn joked: "Just messaging himself good mornings... We were both in the Sally Rooney universe and crossed over with Lenny Abrahamson. We were so lucky to have that experience."

On X, Lovr23_ said: "JOES GROUPCHAT W PAUL WAS CALLED THE TORTURED MENS CLUB." Crynnls_ added: "Apparently, joe and paul mescal's whatsapp gc was called "the tortured mens club" LMFAOOOOOOOOOOO." Itupsetsthem put: "TAYLOR SAID F*** YOUR TORTURED MENS CLUB."

Chrkrose quipped: "The Tortured Men Club group chat must be on fire today." Lavendermuna asked: "Wasn’t joes gc with paul called the tortured men’s club…" SavLovesSwift said: "I’m actually so obsessed with the concept of this album already. “All’s fair in love and poetry” is giving “you treated me the way you did and it’s fair game for me to write about it."
