Gavin & Stacey co-creator Ruth Jones has appeared on radio to slap down reports that Gavin & Stacey is returning for another special this Christmas. The original series of the hit comedy ran from 2007 to 2010 and was created and written by Ruth along with James Corden. It then returned in 2019 with a one-off special leaving fans on a major cliffhangers.
Now actor, writer, and producer Ruth has broken her silence over the new episode rumours, which were first reported by Deadline, and appeared on RTÉ Radio 1 in Ireland and appeared to put an end to rumours of a Gavin & Stacey comeback. She told host Oliver Callan: "'It's lovely that people love it. It's sadly a rumour... if there was something to say James and I would happily announce it."

Last time the show returned the creators broke the news themselves on Twitter, now X, sharing a picture of the script front page back in spring 2019. Ruth also commented on the story that BBC and Netflix were apparently in a bidding war over the hit comedy, which drew in 18m viewers when it aired at Christmas 2019.
"A bidding war – where's this coming from?" she continued. "James and I talk about Gavin & Stacey a lot – it's a huge part of our lives. We are completely grateful for what it's done for our lives'"
On Tuesday film and TV industry news site Deadline broke the news that Gavin & Stacey was due to return for a new episode with filming to start this summer. Deadline also reported that the majority of the main cast will likely return for the special. Other than Corden and Jones Gavin & Stacey stars Mathew Horne and Joanna Page in the titular roles along with an ensemble cast including Rob Brydon, Alison Steadman, Larry Lamb, and Julia Davis.
Over the past five years cast members have been continuously asked about the show's return especially because of the cliffhanger – Ruth's Nessa proposing to Corden's Smithy right before the credits rolled – and answered with a myriad of responses. The latest was Steffan Rhodri who appeared on Morning Live on BBC One. Steffan played Dave Coaches for three series and told hosts Gethin Jones and Michelle Ackerley: "I heard there was a rumour. I never know where these rumours start and I certainly won't know anything about where they end. I'm afraid I have no knowledge to impart to you."
