Discount retailer Poundland has announced a major makeover of 150 stores in the UK & Ireland by the end of August 2024. The ‘Project Evo’ transformations will see each of the stores get a top-to-bottom refresh in the first significant investment in the majority of the stores for more than five years.
Contractors are already on site in 11 locations across the UK & Ireland and the stores will be relaunched over the next fortnight. This coming Saturday (17 February) Project Evo refurbishments will complete in Urmston, Keynsham, Darlington and Plymouth in England as well as Dealz stores in Mullingar and Cavan.
And the following week, makeovers will be completed on Saturday 24 February in Poundland stores in Keighley, Leeds (Crown Point), Coventry and Chatham as well as the Dealz store in Athlone. An additional 31 Project Evo makeovers will take place on subsequent Saturdays bringing the total number of stores transformed under the programme to 42 by Easter.
Project Evo work varies from store-to-store. Each will offer customers the most comprehensive ranges that can be accommodated in the location, including chilled and frozen food, and clothing and homewares ranges from Poundland’s parent company Pepco.
As part of the transformation, the stores will also get fresh new signage, flooring and lighting while back office colleague areas will also be given a makeover to make them better places to work. After the alterations, all the stores will have been reconfigured to offer more baby and kids clothing.
The introduction of chilled food will see these stores bring Poundland’s £30 meal deal to each location alongside the frozen food ranges. Poundland’s director of property services Alan Smallman said: “Project Evo represents a significant investment in a substantial number of stores to make them brilliant places to shop and work.
“Over the past five years we’ve transformed our offer for customers, adding extensive ranges of clothing, homewares, chilled and frozen food. We’re now embarking on a programme that will show off those ranges in a modern and bright environment that’s easy to shop, navigate and checkout.
“We look forward to bringing our best offer to these 150 stores over the coming months.”
Earlier this month Poundland confirmed that it had begun a complete overhaul of its general merchandise ranges that would see it introduce 2,000 new lines across all its 850-plus stores in the UK and Ireland. The new ranges, powered by parent company Pepco Group represent the single biggest change in its general merchandise offer in Poundland’s 30-plus years’ history.
It has also completed makeovers in 11 former Wilko stores in England and Wales and by August 2024 almost one in five of Poundland’s stores, will have received a refresh.
