Everyone loves the view from Swansea Waterfront Winterland's beloved Big Wheel attraction. But what if we 'see' those views and raise you to the vista from Mumbles Pier? Interested?
If you are, then your wish is about to come true as the Big Wheel is set to have a new home at Mumbles Pier. Studt's Fun Fair, the company behind the fairground based at the Recreation Ground in Mumbles Road in school summer holidays, has confirmed it will be bringing the attraction to the pier in February, with an aim of opening around the middle of the month.
The brilliant attraction will be based at the land-end of the pier, on the site of the former Cinderella's nightclub, which was one of the area's most popular clubbing hotspots in the late 80s and throughout the 1990s and 2000s until its shock closure in 2005. More recently, the site was home to Copperfish fish restaurant which was sadly flattened in a terrible fire at Mumbles Pier on August 31, 2022.

In an initial statement on social media, Studt's Fun Fair said: "We are so excited to be building and operating The Big Wheel at Mumbles Pier Swansea," and a further post on the new The Big Wheel page on Facebook added: "COMING SOON! The Big Wheel will be making its way to Mumbles Pier in February, 2024. Like our page and keep up to date with information of our grand opening." A spokesperson for Studt's Fun Fair confirmed to WalesOnline that the Big Wheel coming to Mumbles was indeed the same one that has been a star attraction at Waterfront Winterland for the last few years.
"So The Big Wheel is the one from Swansea's Waterfront Winterland. It will be making its way to Mumbles Pier at the the beginning of February with the aim to be open around the second weekend in February (9 to 11) but this is to be confirmed," the spokesperson said. "The Big Wheel will be situated on the old Cinderella's site meaning it will have amazing 360 degree views of Mumbles Lighthouse, Swansea Bay, Bracelet Bay and more."
Further information, including pricing and opening hours will be confirmed in due course.
Elsewhere in Mumbles, a historic pub which was once frequented by the likes of Dylan Thomas, Anthony Hopkins and Michael Heseltine is up for sale. Back in the day, The Antelope in Mumbles Road was a must-visit among those who enjoyed a pub crawl along the Mumbles Mile and had a rich history dating back to the 1860s.
But since closing its doors for good in 2012, the pub had fallen into a state of disrepair and last March, the council stepped in and asked the owners of the building to do something about its dilapidated state. It's now been put on the market with property estate agents Dawsons for an asking price of £350,000. Want less ads? Download WalesOnline’s Premium app on Apple or Android
The firm said a planning application had been approved for the pub's redevelopment, with plans for a roof terrace area and balcony, alongside the main bar and restaurant area. "The premises has already been stripped back ready for redevelopment. This is a good development opportunity," Dawsons added. More on this here.
