One of Wales' most famous landmarks has been tarnished by fly-tipping. Locals in the seaside town were shocked to find the area used as a rubbish dump.

Carpet waste was found scattered near Marine Drive on the Great Orme,, overlooking Llandudno's West Shore. The dumped carpets, spotted by walkers, are believed to have been recently discarded. The area is located above Llys Helig Drive, also known as Millionaires' Row due to its pricey homes. A video clip of the mess shared on a local Facebook group sparked outrage among residents.

Fly-tipping Action Wales has noted nearly 40,000 incidents in 2023 with the problem spread all over the country and blighting cities, countryside and beauty spots alike. Among the main cause is scammers pretending to be legal rubbish collectors who then dump the trash illegally.

Cleaning up fly-tipped waste costs Welsh people about £1.83m every year. Most of this waste comes from homes. When rubbish is dumped on private land, the owners have to pay to remove it. Fly-tipping doesn't happen much on the Great Orme, but it does sometimes. On February 4, someone saw parts of a fence and shed thrown into a hedge. The council got rid of the rubbish last week.

Locals can't believe someone would spoil such a special place. "For people not to appreciate such a beautiful place is beyond me," one local person said.
