A man has been killed after being hit by a train between Swansea and Carmarthen, it has been confirmed. The incident happened over the weekend on the mainline near Llanelli in Carmarthenshire. There was disruption to public transport west of Swansea on Saturday morning as a result, with replacement buses put on as trains travelling in both directions towards Llanelli and Carmarthen were cancelled and delayed.
The incident happened at around 9.30am, with the line remaining closed for more than three hours. British Transport Police has now confirmed that the man who was hit by a train died at the scene, and that his death is not being treated as suspicious. A spokeswoman for BTP said: “Officers were called to the line near Llanelli railway station at around 9.30am on Saturday (20 January) following reports of a casualty on the tracks. Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
Tragically, Saturday’s incident is the second time a man has died after being hit by a train on the same stretch of railway line in the space of a week. On the previous Saturday (January 13), a man was killed after being struck by a train in the Pembrey and Burry Port area on the line between Swansea and Carmarthen.
