The bodies of a man and woman have been found at a property in Port Talbot after police attended a welfare concern. South Wales Police said they attended an address in Rhodes Avenue, Port Talbot, at around 9am on Monday, February 5.

The force said that upon gaining entry officers discovered the bodies of a 40-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman. Police say that forensics have attended the scene and that the force's inquiries into the incident are ongoing. The deaths are being treated as unexplained and the coroner has been informed.

A resident in the area said that on Monday there was a large police presence in the area with several vans and forensics entering a property. They said that a small police presence remained in place over 24 hours later on Tuesday morning.

A spokesperson for South Wales Police said: “We attended an address on Rhodes Avenue, Port Talbot at around 9am on Monday 5th February following a welfare concern.

“Upon gaining access to the property, officers discovered the bodies of a 40-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman. Forensics have attended the scene. Our investigation is ongoing. The deaths are being treated as unexplained and the coroner has been informed.”

Eyewitness said large police presence

An eyewitness said that there was a large emergency service police presence on the street (Rhodes Avenue) yesterday with around seven police vehicles in attendance.

They said that forensics were also on the scene and that a small police presence remains today.
