New research released today from Durex has lifted the lid on the sex schedules of the nation. 9-11pm on Saturday night is the nation’s peak play time overall while Wednesday is the top day for self-love.
According to the research, in the last year, the average sexually active UK adult has had sex 81 times and engaged in ‘self-love’ 67 times.
When it comes to places, one in five (20%) have had sexual intercourse while outside in the countryside. In light of the findings, Durex is giving away a selection of experiences – from a mountain escape in Germany to a secluded haven in Cumbria.
When it comes to sexual adventures, it seems the nation doesn’t just have a preferred day of the week, but also a preferred time of month and year - with birthdays – both their own (24%) and partners (23%) – holidays (23%), anniversaries (20%) and Valentine’s Day (20%) cited as the top annual occasions to have sex.
Summer is the top season for sexual intercourse, with nearly half of (42%) sexually active UK adults citing it as the season where they have it the most,
After holidays, Valentine’s Day is another busy day in the nation’s bedrooms, with one in five (20%) citing this as their top day for sexual intercourse.
Almost a quarter (22%) of sexually active UK adults cite Saturday as the day they’re most likely to engage in sexual intercourse, followed by Sunday (16%) and Friday (14%).
When it comes to timings, while almost one in ten (8%) are most likely to opt for a morning when it comes to sexual intercourse (between the hours of 7am and 11am), the most common time to get down to it is between 9pm and 11pm (25%).
With the countryside cited as one of the nation’s favourite settings for some sexual escapades, two couples will embark on a night in the wilderness, enjoying either a three-night stay at Hotel Staudacherhof, Wank Mountain in Germany or a two-night stay at The Boathouse at Knotts End, Cockermouth in Cumbria.
Those wanting to enter the competition can do so via the Durex UK Instagram @durex from February 14 with winners announced one week later.
Nikki Hayward, Category Marketing for Durex said: “Our data shows that as a nation, our sex schedules vary hugely, and nothing is out of bounds, so we want to enable people to get the most out of sex, whatever their preferred style.
“But we also wanted to go one step further, and with Valentine’s Day being one of the nation’s favourite sexual occasions, and the countryside being a favourite location, we’re sending two lucky winners to either Wank Mountain, or Cockermouth.”
