For over 100 years, Snap-on Tools has been a large presence in the automotive tool market. Seven new franchisees have just joined the tool giant’s 400-strong UK network, each determined to drive their future.

Having been in the motor trade since the age of 16, one new franchisee, Stephen Lynch, has been using Snap-on Tools since he could afford to buy his own. Being a Snap-on franchisee had been on his mind for close to 15 years but at 51, he decided to act.

Speaking about his choice, Stephen said: "I loved my job but had to be realistic and think to myself, ‘How much longer can I run round pit lanes, doing pit stops?’ I want to enjoy life, travel and have nice things and experiences. Snap-on was the obvious choice. My 10-15-year plan is to give this all I’ve got so that I’m able to retire before 65."

Snap-on Tools is one of the world’s leading manufacturers and distributors of automotive tools and storage solutions. Franchisees sell some of the most sought-after products in the industry and deliver outstanding customer service from their very own showroom on wheels.

Stephen, who is now proudly operating his franchise in central and eastern Nottingham, said: "My favourite part of the business so far is getting to know customers and building relationships. It’s not about selling, it’s finding solutions for customers that will enhance their jobs and ultimately make them more successful too."

Many franchisees join Snap-on having never run a business before. National franchise manager, Lisa Law said: "That’s no problem!

"We look for someone with great people skills who can build relationships with customers and has a passion for selling. After that, our training and support programmes equip franchisees with the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to make a success of their business.

"Then it’s down to hard work to reach their potential. As a result, franchisees' average sales are over £7k per week – with no percentage-based royalty fees to pay."

Stephen and his fellow new recruits are following in the footsteps of Snap-on’s network of franchisees, one of whom is currently making waves.

Luke Henderson, 29, runs his franchise in Plymouth and South Hams. In the last two months, he’s been named a Great British Franchisee and shortlisted as a finalist in the British Franchise Association’s Franchisee of the Year Awards 2023.

Luke said: "I hope my success encourages other young people to go for it! My ambitions are to expand and grow my business, support my brother as he forges his own future alongside me and enjoy an early retirement."

At Snap-on, there’s no such thing as a ‘man in a van’. When you join Snap-on, you become part of a winning team. In business for yourself, but never by yourself.
