The cheapest places for petrol and diesel across Wales at the moment

Need to fill up your car with fuel but looking to save a quid or two? We've found the cheapest rates around - no matter where you live in Wales. At present, the latest UK national average price for unleaded petrol is 141.54p and for diesel, it is 149.65p. For super unleaded, it is 157.17p, whilst the average cost for LPG is 93.78p.

The RAC says that the price you pay for petrol and diesel at the pumps is governed by wholesale fuel prices - the price retailers pay - which are themselves affected by the global price of crude oil. And that in turn is governed by supply and demand for crude oil, oil refinery production and capacity, the pound to dollar exchange rate, as refined fuel is sold in US dollars per metric tonne, distribution costs, the margin (profit) fuel retailers decide to take, fuel duty charged by the Government, currently 52.95p a litre and VAT charged at the end of every forecourt fuel transaction, currently at 20%

It writes on its website: "While some of these stay largely static - such as the fuel duty rate and VAT - others such as the oil price and dollar to sterling exchange rate can be very volatile. This explains why prices rise and fall. A combination of high oil prices and a weak pound leads to the highest pump prices." Anglesey

In Anglesey, Shell along Mona Road in Aethwy is currently charging drivers 153.9p per litre of petrol, whilst diesel will set drivers back 161.9p per litre, both significantly above the national average.

Blaenau Gwent

People living in Blaenau Gwent will find fuel the cheapest at the Tesco store located at North West Approach Glynebwy, Ebbw Vale North, where it costs 138.9p per litre of petrol and 147.9p per litre of diesel. It is significantly more at Morrisons, Beaufort Road, Beaufort, where it costs 151.9p per litre of petrol and 160.9p per litre of diesel.

Bridgend

Head to Sainsbury's at Welsh Designer Outlet Village, Coity Higher for the cheapest fuel in Bridgend, with prices of 135.9p per litre of petrol and 144.9p per litre of diesel. The next cheapest is Tesco (Brewery Lane, Bridgend) and Tesco (Cowbridge Road, Bridgend) which are both priced at 136.9p per litre of petrol and 144.9p per litre of diesel.

Caerphilly

The cheapest fuel can be found at Tesco at New Road, Ystrad Mynach Hengoed, with petrol costing 139.9p per litre, and the price of diesel being 147.9p per litre.

Cardiff

In Cardiff the cheapest place for fuel at the moment is Tesco (Excelsior Estate, Excelsior Road) which is charging 137.9p per litre of petrol and 145.9p per litre of diesel. If you visit Morrisons (Newport Road, Penylan), you'd have to pay 151.7p per litre of petrol and 159.7p per litre of diesel.

Carmarthenshire

If you live in Carmarthen, you'll find the cheapest petrol at either Tesco (Stores Lon Morfa Caerfyrddin, Carmarthen Town North and South), or Texaco (Tenby Road, Trelech), both priced at 137.9p per litre of petrol and 146.9p per litre of diesel. It's cheaper again for those who live in Llanelli, who will find the prices at Asda (Murray Street, town centre) at 136.7p per litre of petrol and 145.7p per litre of diesel.

Ceredigion

In Ceredigion, you'll find Tesco (Aberystwyth Road Cardigan, Mwldan) selling petrol for 136.9p per litre and diesel for 144.9p per litre.

Conwy

If you live in Conwy, the most cost effective way to fill up your car is at Asda (Conway Road, Tudno), where you'll be charged 141.7p per litre of petrol and 151.7p per litre of diesel. It rises significantly if you choose to go to Shell (A55 Interchange Abergele Road, Gele and Llanddulas), where it will cost you 159.9p per litre of petrol and 168.9p per litre of diesel.

Denbighshire

In Denbighshire, your best bet is to head to Tesco (Prestatyn Shopping Park, Nant Hall Road), which is charging 142.9p per litre of petrol and 150.9p per litre of diesel. It is a fair sight more expensive at Morrisons (Marsh Road, Rhyl South West) at the moment, where it costs 152.7p per litre of petrol and 160.7p per litre of diesel.

Flintshire

Tesco (Broughton Shopping Park Chester Road Broughton Chester, Broughton North East, Flintshire) is charging 139.9p per litre of petrol at the moment, and 149.9p per litre of diesel. At Morrisons (High Street, Saltney Ferry, Flintshire), you'll pay 152.9p per litre of petrol and 159.9p per litre of diesel. The most expensive is Shell (A55, Northop) charging 164.9p per litre of petrol and 167.9p per litre of diesel.

Gwynedd

In Gwynedd, Tesco (Caernarfon Road Bangor, Dewi, Gwynedd) is selling fuel for the cheapest at present, with prices of 136.9p per litre of petrol and 146.9p per litre of diesel. Asda (Farrar Road, Canol Bangor, Gwynedd) is charging 138.7p per litre of petrol and 147.7p per litre of diesel.

Merthyr Tydfil

Asda (Dowlais Top, Dowlais and Pant), is currently selling petrol for 142.7p per litre, and diesel for 152.7p per litre. At Esso (New Road, Dowlais and Pant), it costs 143.9p per litre of petrol and 153.9p per litre of diesel.

Monmouthshire

In Monmouthshire, Texaco (Rakestrow, Shirenewton) and Tesco (Station Road Cas-Gwent, Chepstow Castle and Larkfield) are both selling fuel for the cheapest price at the moment, with 139.9p per litre of petrol and 149.9p per litre of diesel.

Neath Port Talbot

You'll find the cheapest fuel in Neath Port Talbot at Tesco (Service Station, Prior Street, Port Talbot), which is priced at 136.9p per litre of petrol and 145.9p per litre of diesel. Shell (Fabian Way, Coedffranc West), is charging 156.9p per litre of petrol, and 161.9p per litre of diesel.

Newport

Tesco (Unit 6, Harlech Retail Park, Cardiff Road, Casnewydd, Gaer, Newport) is the cheapest for petrol at the moment, priced at 136.9p per litre. It is also the cheapest for diesel, charging 144.9p per litre. Shell (1 Malpas Road, Shaftesbury) is charging 152.9p per litre of petrol and 153.9p per litre of diesel.

Pembrokeshire

Tesco (London Road, Bierspool Pembroke Dock, Pembroke Dock) is the cheapest place to go for petrol. The store is charging 136.9p per litre of petrol and 144.9p per litre of diesel.

Powys

In Powys, two Texaco garages are tied for the cheapest fuel, with its Ridgebourne, Llandrindod South location and its Crossgates, Ithon Valley station both charging 139.7p per litre of petrol, and 147.7p per litre of diesel.

Rhondda Cynon Taff

Swansea

In Swansea, Tesco (Pontardulais Road, Cadle, Swansea) is the cheapest at the moment, charging 137.9p per litre of petrol and 145.9p per litre of diesel. Shell (Gower Road, Sketty), meanwhile, is charging 156.9p per litre of petrol, and 161.9p per litre of diesel.

Torfaen

Sainsbury's (Llewellyn Road, Llantarnam) has the cheapest fuel in Torfaen, with prices of 133.9p per litre of petrol and 143.9p per litre of diesel.

Vale of Glamorgan

In the Vale of Glamorgan, drivers will find Tesco at Terra Nova Way Penarth the cheapest, with the store charging 136.9p per litre of petrol and 144.9p per litre of diesel. Morrisons at Penny Way, Castleland, is charging 151.7p per litre of petrol and 157.7p per litre of diesel.

Wrexham

Tesco in Wrexham (Crescent Road Wrexham, Wynnstay) is charging 136.9p per litre of petrol and 143.9p per litre of diesel at the moment, making it the cheapest in the area.
