When looking back on your time in the classroom, a few things might make you question why you're spending your days in school learning something that will never translate into real life.

Although studying Pythagoras or practising your times tables until you know them off by heart may seem like an impossible challenge, in reality, maths is one of the things you start learning as a youngster that you'll need for your future as an adult.

Counting the spare change from buying a loaf of bread comes naturally to some people, but to those who shy away from having to make simple equations under pressure, it can be difficult to go about everyday life with confidence or even progress in your career.

Aiming to help you take control of your future and boost your confidence in numbers, COPA is now offering a free and flexible numeracy course to support you in your journey to conquering numbers.

Unlock your potential

Whether you're a young person preparing for an independent life, a parent looking to boost your numeracy skills, or simply someone who wants to get a firm grasp on numbers to help you keep on top of your finances - the Multiply Scheme can help.

The Numeracy for Life course takes three hours in total to complete, but being fully online means that you have the choice of whether you tackle the learning head-on and complete it in one go, or break it up into more manageable chunks that can fit around your everyday life.

One person who has completed the Multiply course is Gillian. After lacking confidence in numbers made it difficult for her to complete even simple DIY tasks, Gillian decided that it was time to unlock her potential. She said: "It’s always been a family joke that I struggled with measuring and numbers for DIY tasks. After completing Multiply, I feel more confident with numbers."

Feel more empowered

It's not just in everyday life that a lack of confidence in numbers can affect you, as sometimes a workplace will expect you to have a decent grasp on basic maths for you to progress in your career.

Gaining a better understanding of numeracy can not only boost your confidence at work, but it shows your employer that you are willing to put in the effort to advance in your chosen field.

A good example of someone taking charge of their future to help them feel more empowered at work is Jack. He said: "I completed Multiply to support my work with young children in care. I feel more confident supporting them in classrooms after refreshing my numeracy skills."

But it's not just employees taking a step towards feeling more confident with numbers - businesses can also apply for their workforces to sign up to the course too.

The Multiply course can help whether you're a business owner wanting to reduce errors and costs, a manager aiming to enhance workforce productivity, or a company that wants to offer better financial empowerment to your employees.
