Ring doorbell owners have been told that their subscription prices will be increased from March. Customers signed upto Ring's Protect Basic Plan hare being sent an email explaining that the yearly cost will jump from £34.99 a year to £49.99.

It means that people who pay monthly will see payments go from £3.49 to £4.99. Ring is owned by Amazon, and the price hike will begin from March 11.

After the announcement, Martin Lewis took to social media to inform his followers how they can avoid the hike. He said that users who wish to stay on the current rate can cancel their subscription and rejoin for another year before the rise.

He wrote on X, formerly Twitter: "Beat the Ring doorbell 43% March price hike. I know many are annoyed, so there's a possible work around (still double-checking but thought I'd get it out). Cancel now get a pro-rata refund (you may lose saved files tho). Sign up again at the current price which then locks it in for the next year," the Manchester Evening News reports.

Many followers said they had done what he said and it worked. @StocksC_cricket replied "This works. Just done" while @atif21 wrote: "Worked for me @MartinSLewis. I was on a monthly which was due to renew on Tuesday. Cancelled, got 23p back instantly and have signed up to the annual plan for £35. Thanks!"

A spokesperson for Amazon said: "Since Ring launched its Protect Basic Plan in 2015, we’ve regularly found ways to enhance the plan to give our customers more value. As we continue to invest in the services we offer, we are updating our Protect Basic plan pricing.

"Starting March 11, 2024, Ring Protect Basic will increase to £4.99/month. We believe that Ring Protect offers some of the best value in the industry."
